CRJ882 Punishment and Special Needs Populations in Corrections
Terms: Spring 2013
Instructor: Jeff Mellow, Ph.D.
Course Description: This course focuses on the management and treatment of special needs populations in jails, prisons and under community supervision. Special needs populations discussed in this course will include the chronically and mentally ill, women, high-risk inmates, and those with special religious and educational needs. Our discussions will not only conceptualize and operationalize each population, but also focus on assessment, management, treatment, discharge planning, post-release services and the policy implications that need to be addressed when working with these individuals.
